Camera Care & Maintenance

Digital Cameras

bullet

We recommend professional sensor cleaning once a year, or as soon as dust specks cause repeated spots on your images.

bullet

Dust off your equipment before & after use with a 1" camel hair brush.

bullet

Vacuum out your camera bag

bullet

Use UV/Skylight filters to protect optics from impact and excessive cleaning of original optics.

Mechanical Film Cameras:

bullet

We recommend professional cleaning every 5 to 10 years (sooner if camera is subjected to harsh conditions or extensive use).

bullet

Dust off your equipment before & after use with a 1" camel hair brush.

bullet

Vacuum out your camera bag.

bullet

Use UV/Skylight filters to protect optics from impact and excessive cleaning of original optics.

Lens Cleaning

bullet

Use a high quality lens cleaning fluid and tissue. Remove all dust and debris with an oil-free camel hair brush. Place one drop of cleaning formula on tissue. Lightly, in a circular motion, make one swipe on optics. Take a new dry tissue, fog optics with breath, swipe lightly removing fog on optics. Repeat if necessary.

Batteries

bullet

Replace at least once per year to prevent leakage & dead batteries.

bullet

Batteries that have leaked can cause extensive power circuit damage. The corrosion can actually follow the battery contacts, pass through the wires, and destroy the main circuit. Batteries are much less expensive than repairs.

Water Damage

bullet

Ideally bring it in the same day for the best possible repair.

bullet

Place in a plastic bag, remove all possible air within the bag to reduce oxidation.

bullet

If completely submerged, remove battery. Bring in the same day and hope for the best. We use equipment that will eliminate moisture ASAP, slowing down the corrosion process, allowing us more time for proper servicing.

bullet

Soaking in bourbon or other alcohol is just a bad rumor! It may cause additional damage.

Sand Damage

bullet

Brush off loose sand from exterior.

bullet

Leave film, lens, and any accessories attached to reduce contamination.

bullet

Do not operate any controls, additional damage may occur.

bullet

Place in plastic zip lock bag to prevent contamination of other equipment.

Impact Damage

bullet

Ooops!!! It happens to everyone.

bullet

Bring it in for us to analyze the damage.

Tamper Damage

bullet

Not recommended. Usually adds to the cost of repairs, and may lead to beyond repair.

bullet

If you end up repairing your camera, we are looking for new technicians!
